Safety Chain to be as per IS 3076:1984 Grade T (8) or latest. The specifications as issued by RDSO(attached) are to be adhered to in their entirety except that the nominal size (thickness) of the short l ink chain is to be 13 mm (+/- 0.5mm) to 14 mm (+/- 0.5 mm) and long links at ends with ring/suitable locki ng arrangement for padlocking is to be of the length of 4.5 meters. Further, the length of the short link chai ns is to be kept at 50 mm and width at 35 mm. These are electrically welded round steel short link chains, f ully heat treated and tested and comply with the general conditions of acceptance of ISO 1834 or latest. Th e sizes range from 5 to 45 mm. (based on user requirement). The steel used shall be produced by the open hearth or electric process, or by an oxygen blow process. It shall be steel alloy. Marking shall be done as pe r IS 3076:1984 Grade T(8) or latest. Supplier shall supply a certificate of test and examination carried out b y the government owned lab or NABL approved labs with every supply of chain. There should be name of th e chain maker, grade of material, size of chain, identification marking, proof force applied to the whole chai n. No. of test sample taken, breaking force of each sample, total ultimate elongation at fracture, During ma nufacture the heat treated chain shall be subjected to force of 60% of the minimum breaking force.
