Tender's Details

Expression of Interest are invited for Renewable Gas Resource Cluster Mapping with Pipeline Networks Renewable energy is critical for India to achieve its pledge of net zero by 2070. Decarbonizing partially electrifiable and non-electrifiable sectors remains a significant development challenge. To decarbonize the burgeoning transportation sector, the government of India is deploying policies to catalyze private sector investments to produce renewable biofuels from waste and agro-residue. These biofuels include renewable gas, second generation ethanol, and sustainable aviation fuel. A comprehensive transportation scheme (SATAT) supports development of renewable biogas (5000 plants, 15 MTPA production capacity) which can displace one-third of India's existing natural gas consumption. A typical CBG project capacity can vary anywhere from 2 TPD to 33 TPD of production capacity. To bring in a perspective, on an average a single gas station can dispense 3.5 TPD of gas to vehicles fueling close to 350 - 400 cars per day. To support this initiative, the World Bank has a transformative renewable biofuel project under preparation. Offtake of renewable gas: Today most of the plants transport the produce renewable gas via cascades (cylinders) to retail gas stations for utilization. This adds to the cost of the plant and GHG emissions, especially if the plant is far away in remote hinterlands (where most of the agri feedstock is located). If these renewable gas plants are connected to the gas grid using last mile connections, then it would allow for the costs to be reduced and more remote plants to come online. It is understood that Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), Government of India (GoI) is intending to develop a policy to support integration of renewable gas into the gas grid. It is expected that once renewable gas is connected to the grid, with potential open access provisions such renewable gas can be sold anywhere in India. In the recent budget announcement, renewable gas blending target of 5% is kept which will also support demand of renewable gas blending in the networks.
