BOQ Item Description: BIO SAFETY CABINET - Specifications- 1. Class I is the most basic bio-safety cabinet that provide protection to the environment and the laboratory personnel. 2. It does not however provide protection to the product as the un-sterilised room air is drawn over the work surface. 3. Class I bio-safety cabinets are typically used to either enclose specific equipment like centrifuge or for procedures like aerating cultures that might potentially generate aerosols. 4. Bio-safety cabinets of this class are either ducted -connected to the building exhaust system- or unducted -re-circulating filtered exhaust back into the laboratory. 5. In the Class I bio-safety cabinet, the room air is drawn in
through the opening that also allows the entry of the operator arm during work. 6. The air inside the cabinet then takes the aerosol particles that may have been generated and moves it away from the operator toward the HEPA filter. 7. The air moving out of the cabinet i thus, sterilised via the HEPA filters before its discharge to the environment.
8. In this way, cabinet protect the operator and the environment from the aerosol but not the sample. Refer Schedule A of Tender document.
